Important Instructions

Recording Consent Required

 
  • You will need two devices for your exam; any combination is valid (PC + phone, tablet + phone, or even two phones).
  • By joining, you must agree to the applicable recording laws. To protect your privacy, please remove any personal or confidential items from your exam space.
  • A 360° scan of the room and a clear view of your work area are required.
  • By participating, you consent to the recording, storage, and possible review of video, audio, and images during the session.
  • The recordings are stored securely and never shared unless misconduct is detected; in that case, the material could be sent to the FCC for investigation.

 

 

Obtain FRN (FCC Registration Number)

 
 
  • If you don’t have an FRN, you can request one instantly from FCC Cores.
  • Current license holders already have an FRN linked to their call sign.
  • Is an FRN required when applying for a new license?

 

 

Applicants under 13 years of age

 
 
  • We are excited to welcome young amateur radio operators!
  • If you are under 13 years old, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires that a parent or legal guardian complete a COPPA form.
  • Download and complete the form during registration at HamStudy.org.
  • Please send the completed form by email to coppa@examtools.org and chris@n3lf.com.
  • Both the father, mother or legal guardian and the minor must give their consent for the session to be recorded, as indicated in the recording consent section above.

 

 

Photo ID required

 
 
  • Have your official photo ID ready to show to the examining team.
  • ✅ Other accepted documents include birth certificate, school ID, passport or similar official documents.

 

Preparation for the Remote Exam

 
 
  • Close all non-essential applications before the exam: email, messaging, alerts, collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, Discord), gaming platforms, and remote access software.
  • A team member will briefly check your device before the exam. Please follow their instructions to ensure a safe and distraction-free session.
  •  During the exam, only Zoom and a web browser should be open.
  • You can use headphones or earphones to communicate, but you will be asked to remove all wearable devices (headphones, smartwatches, smart glasses) before starting.

 

Preparing the space for the Remote Exam

 

 

  • Applicants under the age of 18 may be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Choose a quiet, private space and keep your camera on throughout the exam.
  • Cover or turn off any screens in view; use a towel or sweatshirt if necessary.
  • Clear your area of ​​books, notes, posters, or any exam materials.
  • Make sure you take the exam alone and without help, without exchanging information with anyone.
